Placing the switch in CHARGER mode and connecting it to your computer is not going to charge the battery. If your camera is in CHARGER mode, it may be noticed by your computer as an unrecognizable device, depending on your operating system.
CHARGER mode is to be used only when the battery has received a full charge and the 24280/24282 is not going to be used for an extended period of time. It holds the charge that the battery has obtained and prevents the battery from being drained. You do not need to put the camera in CHARGER mode unless you will not be using the camera for an extended period of time (such as two to four weeks or longer.) Any other period of time, it can be left in CAMERA mode.
Be sure to remove all pictures from the camera before switching to CHARGER mode. Your camera runs on flash memory, which is powered by the battery. In order to save the charge of the battery in CHARGER mode, the camera is cut off from all power thus erasing the pictures. To ensure your pictures are not lost, be sure to download all photos to your computer before enabling CHARGER mode.
Please note that the LCD may not change to indicate a full charge if you had previously attempted to charge the camera in an incorrect way. As long as the camera is connected for about 4 hours the camera will be fully charged and ready to use.
